Stoudemire signs with Mavs

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – The Dallas Mavericks signed center-forward Amar’e Stoudemire on Wednesday.

Stoudemire negotiated a buyout with the New York Knicks over the weekend and was waived Monday.

“I’m excited to be a part of a first-class organization,” Stoudemire said. “To play alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler and other great players, I think it’s a tremendous opportunity for me to compete for a championship.”

The 32-year-old veteran signed a five-year contract worth nearly $100 million with the Knicks in the summer of 2010. The six-time All-Star averaged 12.0 points and 6.8 rebounds in 36 games this season with the Knicks, who have the NBA’s worst record at 10-43.

Stoudemire spent eight seasons with Phoenix after being selected by the Suns ninth overall in the 2002 draft. He has averaged 20.0 points and 8.2 rebounds in 771 career games.
