Sidney Crosby’s Press Conference: What Was Said…

Many thought that when Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins called a press conference for today, this was it. The superstar was about to hang up his jersey and tell us he was done. And the fact that no one was telling a soul what was going to be said? That only seemed to further the point. But the hockey world can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to Sid’s return. He will be back, we just don’t know when.

Dr. Michael Collins, a concussion specialist, was present at the press conference and was the second to make an opening statement. In that, he broke down concussions in great detail and told us of Sidney’s treatment and recovery process from January up until now. Dr. Collins first started by saying that Sid’s initial symptoms were the worst, as far as concussions go, but went on to say that Sidney has been recovering very well, especially in the last few weeks. Dr. Collins went on to say that Sidney’s body is like a “Ferrari” and crediting that for the recovery that Sidney has made. Dr. Collins concluded by saying that he was confident that Sidney would return to the ice, he just couldn’t give a timeline as to when that would be, and that he was not ready to put a timeline on that.

What both Dr. Collins and Dr. Ted Carrick, also present at the press conference, were sure of was that there would be no chances taken with Sidney. And although he’s made huge strides and feels better than he has since the injury, they were “going to get it right” before they let Sidney return to the NHL ice, and make sure that he’s 100%.

Sid agreed, saying that he was not “going to roll the dice,” and that he had to “listen to the doctors.” He did say that mentally he’s felt better in the last three weeks than he has since the injury. When asked about whether or not he was preparing for the chance that he may still have to retire from hockey due to this injury, Sid said there was only “A pretty slight [chance]. I wouldn’t bet on that. I’m not even considering retirement.”
