Shared Belief not to be rushed
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said Friday that his 3-year-old gelding Shared Belief will not be rushed back to training before being fully healed from an injury.
“I’m not going to work him until he’s perfect,” Hollendorfer said Friday morning. “We want to try and make the Lewis (Robert B. Lewis Stakes on Feb. 8) if we can, but if we don’t, it’s not going to bother me any.”
Shared Belief is recovering from a foot injury that caused the 3-year-old gelding to miss a scheduled workout last Sunday at Santa Anita.
“The injury (abscess) is not serious at all,” Hollendorfer said, “but it’s the kind of thing that if you go too quickly, then you could set yourself back. It still wouldn’t be serious, but you could set yourself back if you don’t time it right.
“We’re not going to get too worried about it. As long as we keep him safe and sound, we’ll be happy, because there’s plenty to run for this year.”
Shared Belief won the CashCall Futurity on Dec. 14 at Hollywood Park by 5 3/4 lengths and is perfect in his first three career starts for $451,200.
