Sam Houston State tabs Johnson season-opening QB
Huntsville, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Redshirt sophomore Jared Johnson was named Sam Houston State’s season-opening quarterback on Monday.
The preseason No. 17 Bearkats will play in college football’s first game on Saturday when they visit No. 1 Eastern Washington for the “FCS Kickoff” matchup.
Last season, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Johnson made two starts and had 214 yards of total offense in 10 games. Sam Houston finished with a 9-5 record.
“The thing I love about Jared is if he doesn’t make a play, it doesn’t bother him,” first-year coach K.C. Keeler said. “He has made a lot of progress in preseason camp.”
Don King III, also a redshirt sophomore, will open the season as the backup quarterback.
