Revolutionary returns with first 2014 win
Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Former Louisiana Derby winner Revolutionary made a successful return to the races Saturday at Gulfstream Park with a late-running victory over the main track.
Trained by Todd Pletcher for WinStar Farm, Revolutionary rallied from last in the five-horse field to win the one-mile optional claiming allowance with Eclipse Award finalist Javier Castellano riding.
The 4-year-old colt went off as the 3-10 favorite and covered the eight furlongs in 1:35.07 as he made his first start since last year’s Belmont Stakes.
Revolutionary won the Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds as the 2-1 favorite in the 1 1/8-mile race. The colt won the Withers Stakes in his 2013 debut effort at Aqueduct and got third behind Orb in the Kentucky Derby.
Revolutionary has earned over $1 million in nine starts with four wins, a second and three thirds.
