St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – The Tampa Bay Rays promoted Chaim Bloom and Erik Neander each to the role of vice president of baseball operations.

Bloom and Neander will replace Andrew Friedman, who left to become the Los Angeles Dodgers’ president of baseball operations earlier this week. The pair were previously the Rays’ directors of baseball operations.

“Erik and Chaim’s promotions are well deserved as they have been essential contributors to our operation for years,” Rays president of baseball operations Matt Silverman said in a statement Friday. “I look forward to working with them in all facets of baseball operations, and I know they will continue to be great leaders of our deeply talented and dedicated department.”

Bloom, 31, joined the Rays in February 2005 and was named director in November 2011. His areas of focus have included player development, international scouting, contract negotiation and management of the major league roster.

The 31-year-old Neander joined the baseball operations department in January 2007 and had spent the last three seasons as a director. He was involved with player personnel and research and development.
