NFL Recap: Week 13

The tragedy that fell over the Kansas City Chiefs overshadowed everything that happened in football this weekend. It was early on Saturday morning when Chiefs’ linebacker Jovan Belcher first killed his girlfriend at home, and then went to Arrowhead Stadium to thank his head coach and general manager for everything they had done for him during his career. Immediately after just as police cars were arriving on the scene, Belcher turned the gun on himself. After holding meetings between the Chiefs and the Panthers, the game went on as scheduled for Sunday.

Kansas City 27, Carolina Panthers 21
A moment of silence was held before the game for victims of domestic violence, both teams gathered on the field together for prayer together afterwards, and the Chiefs won the game it seemed they needed more than ever. If only silly things like football had mattered at the time.

Indianapolis Colts 35, Detroit Lions 33
If anyone still saw Andrew Luck as the college kid trying to make it in the big leagues, that has all changed after Sunday when he was the driving force in a huge Colts’ turnaround. Down by 12 in the fourth, and facing a tough Dolphins team, it was Luck’s 14 yard touchdown pass to Donnie Avery in the final play of the game that clinched the win for Indianapolis. Luck finished the day with 391 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Houston Texans 24, Tennessee Titans 10
Normally one of the best teams in the league defeating one of the worst this season wouldn’t be huge news to speak of. But the fact that the Texans clinched their playoff spot made it a bit more exciting; and for fans it was fun to watch Jake Locker, quarterback for the Titans, get repeatedly sacked (six times!) Matt Schaub on the other hand, passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns, which were both big contributions to an important win for Houston.
