NFL Preview: Week 14

As the college schedule is empty this week, fans may be more excited for NFL games this weekend than ever. It’s good they’ll be brining that enthusiasm with them, because the NFL schedule is pretty paltry. That being said, here’s a look at the good games that you can look forward to this week.

Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders

Thanks to Peyton Manning the Broncos are on their longest winning streak in 14 years, and they’ve already established themselves as winners of the AFC West. Still, there’s a lot riding on this game; they still have a chance to go undefeated in their division if they want to get a bye in the first week of the playoffs. The Raiders on the other hand have nothing to lose with this one. They’re last in the NFL in scoring defense, 25th against the pass, and 28th against the run. They don’t have a chance at the playoffs but if they can pull one out against Manning, they might give people something to remember.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers

The Lions were able to sack Aaron Rodgers three times in their last meeting alone, but that may not be surprising given that the quarterback leads the league in number of sacks this year. But the game is being held at Lambeau Field, a venue Detroit has been able to win in any time during their last 20 games there against the Packers. They’re most likely not going to win this one on Sunday either. The Packers have climbed back to the top of the NFC North; and Rodgers has a 7-1 record against Detroit himself. The fact that much of the rest of the Packers’ offense is out with injuries will help Detroit with this one. And they’ll need it.

Houston Texans at New England Patriots

A big game against two great teams, and that’s why this one takes the spot on Monday night. And the fact that these two teams have only met three times before in their prior history means that this one is also going to be completely unpredictable. The Texans have a better record this year going into the game; yet the Texans are dealing with their fair share of injuries too. This game will be a good one, and it will also end a six-end winning streak for one of these teams.
