Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – Jakob Gollon scored 20 points and Daniel Coursey added 17, as Mercer pulled off a stunning 78-71 upset of Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bears closed the contest on a 20-8 run to become the second straight Atlantic Sun team to provide an NCAA surprise. Last year, it was Florida Gulf Coast that knocked off second-seeded Georgetown on the way to the Sweet 16. Duke, which finished the season ranked eighth in the country, lost its NCAA Tournament opener for the second time in three years. In 2012 as a No. 2 seed, the Blue Devils were beaten by Lehigh. This year, Duke was seeded third in the Midwest Region after a season in which the Blue Devils began the campaign ranked fourth and dropped down to No. 23 in mid-January before a late-season surge that ended with a loss to Virginia in the ACC Tournament title game.

Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – Jarnell Stokes had a career-high 26 points, Jordan McRae scored 21 and Tennessee posted an 86-67 victory over Massachusetts in second-round action of the NCAA Tournament. Stokes tied a school tourney single-game record with 14 rebounds. Jeronne Maymon also registered a double-double with 11 points and as many boards for the Volunteers (23-12), who rallied to beat fellow No. 11 seed Iowa in overtime in the First Four on Wednesday. Tennessee will next face upstart Mercer in the third round on Sunday. The Bears stunned Duke, the Midwest Region’s No. 3 seed, earlier Friday. Chaz Williams and Maxie Esho each scored 12 points for the sixth-seeded Minutemen (24-9), whose first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1998 was a brief one.

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Cory Jefferson had 16 points and the sixth-seeded Baylor Bears cruised past the 11th-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers, 74-60, in a battle between former Big 12 foes in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Isaiah Austin added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bears (25-11), who missed the tournament last season after reaching the Elite Eight in 2012. Brady Heslip and Rico Gathers tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively. Baylor, which went 38-for-48 from the foul line, will play third-seeded Creighton in the third round on Sunday. The Bluejays beat 14th-seeded Louisiana, 76-66, on Friday. Terran Petteway ended with 18 points but went 0-for-7 from beyond the arc for the Cornhuskers (19-13), who fell to 0-7 in NCAA Tournament action. Shavon Shields and Ray Gallegos had 16 and 15 points, respectively. Nebraska coach Tim Miles was ejected after getting whistled for two technical fouls in the second half.

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Doug McDermott had 30 points on 13-of-23 shooting and the third-seeded Creighton Bluejays held off the 14th-seeded Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, 76-66, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. McDermott, the nation’s leading scorer, also pulled down 12 rebounds for the Bluejays (27-7), who are making their 19th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Austin Chatman and Ethan Wragge added 16 and 12 points, respectively. Creighton, which lost to Duke in the Round of 32 last year, will face sixth- seeded Baylor in the third round on Sunday. The Bears beat 11th-seeded Nebraska, 74-60, earlier Friday. Elfrid Payton ended with 24 points and eight boards for the Cajuns (23-12), who won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Shawn Long donated 15 points and seven boards.

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – Chasson Randle poured in a team-high 23 points to lead Stanford to a 58-53 win over New Mexico in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. Anthony Brown and Stefan Nastic added 10 points apiece, with Brown adding seven boards for the Cardinal (22-12), who will face Kansas in the third round on Sunday. Cameron Bairstow scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Lobos (27-7), who didn’t make it past their opening game of the tournament for the second straight season. New Mexico was upset by then-14th seeded Harvard last year.

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – Andrew Wiggins scored a game-high 19 points to lead Kansas to an 80-69 win over Eastern Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Jamari Traylor added 17 points and 14 rebounds and Perry Ellis added 14 points with 13 boards for the Jayhawks (24-9), who will face Stanford in the third round on Sunday. Kansas was again without star big man Joel Embiid, who has been sidelined since early March with a back injury. Tarik Black, who lost his starting spot to Embiid early in the season, filled in for the Big-12 Defensive Player of the Year and contributed 12 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Glenn Cosey scored 17 points and Tarius Johnson and Eric Stutz both finished with 11 for the Colonels (24-9).

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Weber State stormed out of the gate, but Arizona quickly ratcheted up its defense before holding off the pesky Big Sky champs. Aaron Gordon had 16 points, eight rebounds and four blocks and Arizona beat Weber State, 68-59, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Nick Johnson netted 18 points, while Kaleb Tarczewski tallied 10 points and five blocks for the top-seeded Wildcats (31-4), who will play Gonzaga in the third round on Sunday. Big Sky Player of the Year Davion Berry was 10-of-10 from the foul line and scored 24 points, but was just 5-of-20 from the field for Weber State (19-12). Weber State, which put up an average of 18.3 3- pointers per game coming in, was 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) from beyond the arc. It shot just 30.2 percent (16-of-53) from the floor.

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – After falling as a top seed in the third round last season, Gonzaga is hoping to shock one in the third round this year. Kevin Pangos had 26 points and Gonzaga defeated Oklahoma State, 85-77, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Pangos, who was 12-of-14 from the foul line, made all 10 of his attempts in the final 1:31 to seal the outcome. The referees called 61 fouls, the most in a non-overtime NCAA Tournament game since 1975. Five players fouled out. Gary Bell Jr. provided 17 points, while Przemek Karnowski added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the eighth-seeded Bulldogs (29-6), who have won six straight and will face West Region top seed Arizona in the third round on Sunday. No. 1 seed Gonzaga fell to ninth-seeded Wichita State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament last year. Marcus Smart, who is projected to be a high NBA Draft pick, returned for his sophomore season at Oklahoma State to make it back to the NCAA Tournament, but his Cowboys were again dispatched in the second round. OK State was a second-round loser in 2013 as a No. 5 seed. Smart finished with 23 points on 5-of-14 shooting and 12-of-19 from the foul line to go with 13 boards and seven assists for Oklahoma State (21-13), which was 5-2 coming in since Smart returned from his three-game suspension for shoving a Texas Tech fan.

Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – Michael Dixon Jr. capped off a 19-point performance by hitting four critical free throws in the final 10 seconds that allowed Memphis to hold on for a 71-66 victory over George Washington in an NCAA Tournament East Region second-round clash. Dixon finished 6-of-9 from the field and Joe Jackson tallied 15 points and six assists in a game Memphis (24-9) never trailed, but had to ward off a determined Colonials team in the closing stages. The win advances the eighth-seeded Tigers to Sunday’s third round, where they’ll face No. 1 seed Virginia after the Cavaliers’ 70-59 win over Coastal Carolina. George Washington (24-9), making its first NCAA trip since 2007 and playing without second-leading scorer Kethan Savage due to a broken foot, received 21 points from Isaiah Armwood and 16 out of Kevin Larsen.

Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – Anthony Gill and Malcolm Brogdon each scored 10 second-half points, helping Virginia survive an early scare from upset- minded Coastal Carolina and record a 70-59 win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Gill finished with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Brodgon netted 14 for the East Region’s No. 1 seed, which trailed the underdog Chanticleers by 10 points late in the first half and 35-30 at the break. The contest was tied at 47-47 with under nine minutes left before Virginia (29-6) embarked on an 18-5 run that finally put the game away. London Perrantes contributed 12 points and six assists to Virginia’s first Tournament victory since 2007. The ACC champion Cavaliers will continue on against eighth-seeded Memphis in Sunday’s third round. Coastal Carolina (21-13) made the first-ever 16th-seed to beat a No. 1 a viable possibility by shooting an impressive 52 percent in the opening half, but Virginia’s trademark defense clamped down to hold the Chanticleers to a 32 percent success rate in the second. St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – Wichita State can now add the best start in NCAA men’s basketball history to its list of records set during the team’s undefeated run this year. Cleanthony Early supplied a game-high 23 points as the Shockers secured the first-ever 35-0 start to a season with a 64-37 thumping of Cal Poly in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The top seed in the Midwest Region, Wichita State (35-0) stifled Cal Poly with its swarming defense. The Shockers held the 16th-seeded Mustangs to a woeful 12-for-58 effort from the floor, including 5-of-28 from 3-point range. Chadrack Lufile added eight points and five rebounds for the Shockers, who will face Kentucky in the third round on Sunday. The eighth-seeded Wildcats downed Kansas State on Friday. Maliik Love scored nine points, while Chris Eversley added six points and five boards for Cal Poly (14-20), which became the first 19-loss team in 59 years to win a tournament game when it beat Texas Southern, 81-69, in the First Four on Wednesday.

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – Freshman Julius Randle registered 19 points and 15 rebounds in his NCAA Tournament debut as Kentucky claimed a 56- 49 victory over Kansas State in second-round action from the Midwest Region. Aaron Harrison supplied 18 points for ninth-seeded Kentucky (25-10), which will take on Wichita State, the region’s top seed, in the third round on Sunday. The undefeated Shockers advanced with a win over Cal Poly on Friday. Marcus Foster finished with 15 points on just 7-of-18 shooting from the floor for Kansas State (20-13), which fell to 0-9 all-time against Kentucky.

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Marcus Paige scored 19 points, James Michael McAdoo added a pair of clutch free throws and North Carolina escaped with a 79-77 win over Providence in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With the score knotted at 77 and the clock winding down, McAdoo rebounded Brice Johnson’s missed jumper and drew a foul with less than four seconds to play. McAdoo made the first free throw to put UNC (24-9) in front. The second attempt missed long and caromed back to McAdoo, who grabbed the loose ball and again got fouled. McAdoo split the second pair, but the ball bounced out-of- bounds off Providence star Bryce Cotton, whose terrific college career came to a disappointing end as the Tar Heels inbounded and bled the remaining half second off the clock. Despite the loss, Cotton saved his best for last, pouring in a career-high 36 points with eight assists and five rebounds in his final collegiate game. LaDontae Henton added 16 points and 11 boards for Providence (23-12) in defeat. Johnson and McAdoo had 16 points apiece for the sixth-seeded Tar Heels, who will take on Iowa State in the round of 32 of the East Region.

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Georges Niang led five Cyclones in double figures with 24 points and Iowa State rolled to the round of 32 with a 93-75 takedown of North Carolina Central in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Niang hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range and contributed six rebounds and four assists for third-seeded Iowa State (27-7), which will tangle with North Carolina on Sunday with an East Region Sweet 16 birth on the line. But it will be doing so without the services of the star sophomore. Niang suffered a broken right foot late in the contest and will miss the remainder of the tournament. Melvin Ejim posted 17 points and eight boards, Monte Morris and Dustin Hogue netted 15 points apiece and DeAndre Kane stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, seven boards and five helpers in the triumph. The Cyclones shot 63.6 percent and 9-of-17 from the 3-point line. Jeremy Ingram poured in 28 points for the MEAC champion Eagles (28-6). Karamo Jawara added 16.

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Desmond Haymon tied the game with a four- point play late in regulation, then hit a big 3 in overtime as Stephen F. Austin took a thrilling 77-75 win over VCU in second-round action from the South Region. Haymon was fouled hitting a three-pointer with 3.6 seconds left in regulation, then made the free throw to send the game to an extra session. It was Haymon again with a long bucket with just over two minutes left in the extra session that gave the team the lead for good as he finished the game with 17 points and seven rebounds. Jacob Parker had 22 points while Thomas Walkup gave 12 points and 10 rebounds for the 12th-seeded Lumberjacks (32-2), who won for the first time in the NCAA Tournament and ran their winning streak to 29 straight games. Stephen F. Austin moves on to the round of 32 where it will play UCLA, which cruised past Tulsa, on Sunday. Treveon Graham had 19 points and seven boards, Jordan Burgess gave 14 points, while JeQuan Lewis had 13 points for the fifth-seeded Rams (26-9), who lost to Saint Joseph’s in the Atlantic 10 tournament final, but was one of six teams from the conference to earn a bid to the tournament.

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Jordan Adams scored 21 points with eight rebounds and fourth-seeded UCLA pulled away late to take a 76-59 win over 13th-seeded Tulsa in second-round South Region play on Friday. Norman Powell gave 15 points and Tony Parker gave 11 points and six rebounds for the Bruins (27-8), who defeated Arizona in the Pac-12 Conference Championship and are appearing in their 46th NCAA Tournament. UCLA will take on Stephen F. Austin, which upset VCU in overtime earlier on Friday, in the round of 32 on Sunday. D’Andre Wright had 18 points and James Woodard gave 11 points with nine rebounds for the Golden Hurricane (21-13), who won their final 11 games and defeated Louisiana Tech to win the Conference USA championship.
