New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Brandon Sutter netted the lone goal in the shootout, as Pittsburgh wasted a two-goal, third-period lead but rebounded to top the Rangers, 4-3, at Madison Square Garden. Neither team was able to produce a marker with the first eight shots. Benoit Pouliot began the fifth and final round by shooting his attempt over the net, and Sutter ended the contest with a shot between the pads of Henrik Lundqvist. Sutter also scored in regulation, as did Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis for the Penguins, who revealed prior to the game that Evgeni Malkin will miss two contests after sliding feet-first into the boards on Saturday against Detroit. Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 stops and then held New York off the board in the deciding breakaway contest. Carl Hagelin, Mats Zuccarello and Derick Brassard tallied for the Rangers, who fell to 1-4-1 on their nine-game residency. Lundqvist stopped 29 shots in the tough-luck defeat.
