Tuomo Ruutu also potted a goal for the Devils, who ended a four-game skid despite going 0-for-6 on the power play prior to Travis Zajac’s empty-netter on a 5-on-4 situation. Cory Schneider picked up the win with a 23-save performance, including several acrobatic denials in the closing minutes. Ryan Carter scored a short-handed goal and Darcy Kuemper made 20 saves in Minnesota’s fourth straight setback.

Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – The New York Islanders had payback on their minds when they took on the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. Jaroslav Halak posted his second straight shutout and the Islanders claimed a 6-0 decision to avenge an earlier loss to the Avalanche. The Islanders traveled to Colorado on Oct. 30 and lost 5-0, their biggest margin of defeat this season. But Tuesday was a much different outcome thanks to Halak’s 20 saves and a balanced offensive attack. Halak kept Arizona off the board in a 1-0 win on Saturday. Tuesday’s victory was the 150th of his career. It was also his 32nd career shutout. Nick Leddy, Anders Lee, Travis Hamonic, Nikolay Kulemin, Casey Cizikas and Ryan Strome each scored for New York, which has won four in a row. Semyon Varlamov made 40 saves for the Avs, who fell to 4-8-5 on the season.

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Mats Zuccarello, Martin St. Louis and Kevin Klein all scored during a three-goal first period, and the New York Rangers sent the Pittsburgh Penguins’ seven-game win streak to a screeching halt with a 5-0 rout at Madison Square Garden. Rick Nash recorded a goal and two assists and Henrik Lundqvist turned back all 33 shots he faced as the Rangers bounced back strongly from back-to-back defeats over the weekend. Derick Brassard added a goal and both Derek Stepan and Marc Staal had two assists to help New York deny the Penguins an opportunity to avenge their seven- game loss to the Rangers in last season’s Eastern Conference semifinals. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 24-of-26 shots for the Jets, who had gone 6-0-2 since a regulation loss to Tampa Bay on Oct. 24.

Derek MacKenzie and Tomas Fleischmann scored later on to support a 21-save effort from Roberto Luongo that helped the Panthers halt an 0-2-1 stretch. Joe Thornton accounted for San Jose’s lone goal during the third period and Antti Niemi finished with 26 saves for the Sharks, who fell to 1-2-0 on their current seven-game road swing.

Two of Lehtera’s goals resulted from nifty back- passes by Tarasenko, and Schwartz set up the rookie for a short-handed tally to complete the hat trick. Pekka Rinne turned aside 21 shots in the win. Benoit Pouliot and Nail Yakupov both lit the lamp for Edmonton, which had won its two previous games. Viktor Fasth was pulled after allowing three goals on 17 shots in the first period and Ben Scrivens stopped all 18 shots in relief.

Brad Richards and Marcus Kruger scored in regulation for the Blackhawks, who have won three of four. Corey Crawford made 25 saves and stopped Ryan Callahan, Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos in the shootout. Cedric Paquette and Kucherov lit the lamp for the Lightning, who had a six-game winning streak snapped. Ben Bishop stopped 37-of-39 shots.

Tyler Seguin had two goals and Erik Cole also lit the lamp for the Stars, who last won a game on Oct. 24 in New Jersey. Kari Lehtonen stopped 33 shots in the win. Connor Murphy, Joe Vitale and Mikkel Boedker all scored for the Coyotes, who have dropped their past two. Mike Smith allowed all four goals on 32 shots in the loss.

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) – Daniel Sedin netted the game-winning goal with 55 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. Henrik Sedin made a move around a defender and sent a cross-ice feed from the left circle to Daniel Sedin, who blasted a sharp-angle one-timer past the glove of Craig Anderson from just above the goal line for the win. Alexandre Burrows, Shawn Matthias and Kevin Bieksa also scored and Henrik Sedin finished with two assists for the Canucks, who have won four of their last five. Ryan Miller made 21 saves in the win. Kyle Turris supplied a goal and a helper and Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman both lit the lamp for Ottawa, which got 33 saves from Anderson in its third straight loss.
