Kyle Okposo’s 100th career goal came during an outburst in the third period that boosted the Islanders to a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night. The Islanders scored five consecutive goals, including three in the first 5:20 of the third period, and are 3-0 for the first time since winning their first four games in 2001. Jaroslav Halak made 40 saves, including 20 in the second period to keep the Islanders in the game. Johnny Boychuk, John Tavares, Brock Nelson, Mikhail Grabovski and Nick Leddy also scored in the win. Rick Nash remained hot, scoring his fifth and sixth goals of the season to become the first Rangers player ever to find the net in the first four games of the season. Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – William Karlsson netted the deciding goal in his first career shootout attempt, and the Anaheim Ducks claimed a 4-3 decision over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. Karlsson, who recorded his first two-goal effort in a win at Buffalo on Monday, completed the fourth round of the breakaway competition by beating Steve Mason from the slot with a wrister inside the left post. Tim Jackman, Devante Smith-Pelly and Matt Beleskey lit the lamp in regulation for the Ducks, winners of three straight on the road after an opening-night loss in Pittsburgh. Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) – Joe Pavelski was the lone goal scorer in the shootout and the San Jose Sharks defeated the Washington Capitals 6-5 on Tuesday night. Pavelski, who had a goal in regulation, beat Justin Peters to his glove side with a rising shot into the top corner to complete the second round. Matt Irwin scored twice, Tommy Wingels posted a goal and an assist and John Scott also lit the lamp for the Sharks, who are off to a 3-0 start for the third season in a row. Antti Niemi made 29 saves in the victory. Alex Ovechkin had two goals and an assist for Washington, which came back from deficits of 3-0 in the first period and 5-3 in the third. Mike Green had a goal and a helper, while Troy Brouwer and Marcus Johansson also scored for Washington. Braden Holtby made just four saves on seven shots before being pulled for Peters midway through the first period. Peters stopped 14-of-16 shots in defeat.

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – Tyler Seguin notched a hat trick to help the Dallas Stars to a 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Seguin’s second goal of the game gave Columbus the lead in the third period. He also scored the first and last goal and Jamie Benn added a marker and three assists for the Stars, who got their first win of the season after opening it with consecutive losses. Kari Lehtonen stopped 33 shots in the win. Ryan Johansen had a pair of goals for the Blue Jackets, who had won their first two games of the season. Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 34 shots in the loss.

After Buffalo’s Matt Moulson and Carolina’s Chris Terry were successful on tries early in the shootout, 12 straight shots were either turned away or off the mark before Girgensons delivered the game-winner. Marcus Foligno tallied twice in regulation for Buffalo, which finally got a win after three straight defeats to open the season. Torrey Mitchell also scored for the Sabres, who got 22 saves from Jhonas Enroth. Carolina, meanwhile, fell to 0-2-1 on the season despite a goal and an assist apiece from Terry, Zach Boychuk and Riley Nash. Ward made 23 saves on 26 shots.

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) – Phil Kessel scored 34 seconds into overtime to lift the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche at Air Canada Centre. On the game-winner, Kessel retrieved a puck in the Colorado zone, had a step on Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie as he cut to the middle and swept the puck underneath Semyon Varlamov. The Maple Leafs, who avoided an 0-3 start at home, tied the game at 2-2 on Joffrey Lupul’s unassisted tally at the 10:36 mark of the third period. Avalanche defenseman Brad Stuart’s clearing attempt off the glass didn’t work out. Lupul gloved the puck and fired a wrister from the left circle through the pads of Varlamov. James van Riemsdyk added a goal and James Reimer made 22 saves as the Maple Leafs beat Colorado in Toronto for the first time since March 20, 2004. The Avalanche had won four straight as the road team in the series. Ryan O’Reilly and Matt Duchene both scored their first goals of the season for Colorado, which has only one win through four games. Varlamov stopped 37 shots.

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Mike Cammalleri netted the winning score on a power play in the latter stages of the third period, and the New Jersey Devils edged the Tampa Bay Lightning, 2-1, on Tuesday. Alex Killorn notched the lone offense for the Lightning, who were coming off a 7-1 drubbing of the Canadiens on Monday. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 23 shots in an unsuccessful Tampa debut.

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) – Joe Colborne scored the winner in the shootout as the Calgary Flames nabbed a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Colborne was the first shooter for Calgary and he faked back to the forehand before stuffing it past Pekka Rinne. Karri Ramo made saves on James Neal and Olli Jokinen to preserve the win. Mark Giordano and TJ Brodie scored goals in regulation, while Ramo turned away 19 shots for the Flames, who have won two of three. Filip Forsberg and Mike Ribeiro scored a goal apiece, and Rinne stopped 26 shots in the loss for the Predators, who dropped their first game of the season after winning their first two.

Final Score: Los Angeles 6, Edmonton 1

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Tanner Pearson registered two goals and one assist as the Los Angeles Kings continued their mastery of the Edmonton Oilers with a 6-1 rout at Staples Center. Pearson’s linemates, Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli, both had a goal with an assist in Darryl Sutter’s 100th regular-season win as head coach of the Kings. Justin Williams and Dustin Brown added goals for the Kings, who posted their seventh straight win over the Oilers. Jonathan Quick came within 21 seconds of a shutout, making 31 saves. Viktor Fasth got the start in net for Edmonton and left with a groin injury in the first period after allowing three goals on 11 shots. Ex- King Ben Scrivens stopped 12-of-15 shots in relief. Matt Hendricks prevented the shutout for Edmonton, which has opened with three straight losses for the first time since dropping its first four games in 1995-96.
