Murdaca runs away with Asia-Pacific Amateur

Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) – Australian Antonio Murdaca fired a final-round, 1-under 71 on Sunday to win the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship by seven shots.

Entering the day leading by eight strokes, Murdaca took care of business and ended at 13-under-par 275. With the win, the 19-year-old earned an invitation to the 2015 Masters. Murdaca also earned a spot in the International Final Qualifying for the Open Championship along with runner-up Horikawa Mikumu.

Already with a comfortable lead, Murdaca began with two pars before rolling in his first birdie on No. 3. Following a trio of pars, Murdaca tripped to two bogeys in a three-hole stretch at seven and nine.

Making the turn at plus-1, Murdaca drained his second birdie on 10 to get back to even par on the day. Another gain on 14 was followed by four straight pars to close out Murdaca’s championship.

Mikumu carded a 3-under 69 on Sunday, but it was not nearly enough as he finished alone in second at 6-under 282.

Todd Sinnott also shot a 71 and ended in third at 5-under 283, while fellow Australian Ryan Ruffels finished at 3-under 285 after a final-round 68.
