Mid-American Conference Tournament Recaps

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – Quincy Diggs poured in 20 points as the Akron Zips downed the Ohio University Bobcats, 83-77, in the third round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.

Demetrius Treadwell recorded a double-double for Akron (21-11) with 19 points and 11 boards, while Reggie McAdams provided a spark off the bench with 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor. The Zips will take on the top-seeded Western Michigan Broncos in the semifinals on Friday.

Nick Kellogg paced the Bobcats (23-11) with game-highs of 25 points and six assists. Javarez Willis added 13 points and Maurice Ndour went 5-of-6 from the field for 11 points.

Ohio took a 38-33 lead into the intermission after it made good on 60 percent of its field goal attempts in the opening period. The Zips trailed at the break despite shooting an even 50 percent from the floor, including a 4-of-10 clip from behind the 3-point line in the first half.

Although the Bobcats hit on 61.5 percent of their attempts from the field in the second stanza, they also made only 14-of-21 shots at the charity stripe after the break. Akron sank 6-of-11 tries from 3-point range over the final 20 minutes of the contest. The Zips used an 11-0 run to take a 75-67 lead by the 1:14 mark of the second half and never looked back.

Both sides scored 36 points in the paint and 15 second chance points.

Final Score: Eastern Michigan 69, Buffalo 64

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – Karrington Ward had 19 points and seven rebounds as the Eastern Michigan Eagles narrowly defeated the Buffalo Bulls, 69-64, in the third round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.

Mike Talley finished with 12 points for the sixth-seeded Eagles (21-13), who will go up against second-seeded Toledo on Friday in the semifinal round.

Joshua Freelove scored 26 points, while Will Regan registered a double-double with 16 and 10 boards for the third-seeded Bulls (19-10). Jarod Oldham added 10 points, while Javon McCrea filled his stat line with 13 rebounds, seven points, five assists and four blocked shots, but converted only 2-of-13 from the floor.

Buffalo shot just 31.3 percent from the field in the opening half, yet managed to make good on 8-of-16 from 3-point range, as it led 32-29 at intermission. EMU made 38.7 percent of its field goal attempts in the period.

The Eagles connected on 40.7 percent of their shots from the floor in the second period and went 14-of-19 at the free-throw line. With 7:09 remaining in regulation, the game was tied at 55-55 but the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to create some space and then held on for the victory.

EMU’s bench outscored the Bulls’ reserves, 19-2.
