Mets 3B Wright shut down for remainder of season
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – The New York Mets announced after Tuesday’s win over the Colorado Rockies that third baseman David Wright will miss the remainder of the season with left shoulder inflammation.
Wright, who was scratched from the starting lineup on Tuesday, has had a tough time with recurring shoulder pain this season and was sent to a local hospital for further testing prior to the game.
“It’s disappointing, but for me personally it’s important for me to end this year as healthy as possible,” said Wright.
An MRI taken on the shoulder showed persistent inflammation in the rotator cuff which forced the Mets, who are clearly out of the playoff hunt, to shut down the All-Star third baseman.
“Fortunately the team doctors believe we can avoid surgery,” Wright added.
The 31-year-old batted .269 with a career-low eight home runs and knocked in 63 RBI in 134 games this season.
