Injury sidelines Take Charge Brandi
Hot Springs, AR (SportsNetwork.com) – Champion filly Take Charge Brandi has an injury and will be sidelined for about two months.
Take Charge Brandi, owned by Willis Horton and trained by D. Wayne Lukas, has a non-displaced chip in her right knee and is expected to be out of competition for about 60 days. The 3-year-old filly, winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, was to start in this Saturday’s Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
Lukas discovered the chip Tuesday morning following training Monday. He said Take Charge Brandi was “a little tender” Tuesday morning and he first thought it might be an issue with a foot.
“We’re going to take a positive approach to this,” Lukas said. “She’s only going to be out 60 days.”
X-Rays were taken and sent to Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood & Riddle in Kentucky. Take Charge Brandi will be taken to Rood & Riddle Wednesday so that Bramlage can determine whether surgery is necessary.
In her seasonal debut, Take Charge Brandi won the Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn. The filly has won five of nine starts for $1,680,126.
