Giants add Morse for NLCS
St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – The San Francisco Giants made one change to their roster for the National League Championship Series against St. Louis, adding outfielder Michael Morse in place of Gary Brown.
Morse will give the Giants some pop at the plate. He hit 16 homers and drove in 61 runs while batting .279 in 131 games this season.
The veteran slugger battled an oblique injury in September and sat out the NL Division Series against Washington. San Francisco scored just nine runs in four games during the NLDS win over the Nationals.
There were no other changes for the Giants, as Gregor Blanco, Hunter Pence, Travis Ishikawa and Juan Perez remain the other outfielders. The infielders will again be Brandon Belt, Joe Panik, Brandon Crawford, Pablo Sandoval, Matt Duffy and Joaquin Arias, while Busty Posey and Andrew Susac again serve as the catchers.
Bruce Bochy will still carry 12 pitchers for the series. Madison Bumgarner and Jake Peavy are set to start the first two games in St. Louis, while other likely starters include Tim Hudson and Ryan Vogelsong. Yusmeiro Petit or Tim Lincecum could get a nod, but will likely work out of a bullpen that also includes Jeremy Affeldt, Santiago Casilla, Javier Lopez, Jean Machi, Sergio Romo and Hunter Strickland.
