Djokovic gets nice draw at ATP Finals
London, England (SportsNetwork.com) – Two-time reigning champion Novak Djokovic received a favorable draw at the ATP World Tour Finals, while Roger Federer and Andy Murray will square off in round-robin action next week.
The world No. 1 Djokovic, who captured his 20th career Masters title in Paris on Sunday, will spearhead round-robin Group A, which also features Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka, U.S. Open titlist Marin Cilic and former Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych.
The ATP Finals is an exclusive eight-player, season-ending tournament that will commence Sunday in London.
The 2014 Wimbledon runner-up Federer will headline Group B in London and face the two-time Grand Slam champion Murray and Finals newcomers Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic in round-robin action. Nishikori was September’s U.S. Open runner-up to Cilic.
The reigning Wimbledon champion and three-time Tour Finals winner Djokovic, who’s riding a 27-match indoor court winning streak over the last two years, is battling the six-time Finals titlist Federer for the coveted year-end No. 1 ranking.
Djokovic and the former top-ranked great Federer are the only former champs in this year’s Finals field at The O2.
Former No. 1 Rafael Nadal will skip the London event because of appendicitis.
