Datsyuk out with shoulder separation
Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) – Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk is expected to miss 4-to-5 weeks with a separated shoulder.
MLive.com reported the news on Wednesday, hours after an MRI exam revealed that the 36-year-old Russian veteran has a second-degree separation of his right shoulder.
The injury occurred during Monday night’s exhibition game, when Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi checked him into the glass with four minutes remaining in the contest.
It’s the second bit of unexpected injury news in training camp for the perennial contenders. Last week, 2013 first-round draft pick Anthony Mantha sustained a fractured tibia in a rookie tournament and was slated to miss 6- to-8 weeks.
Detroit lost 421 man-games to injuries last season, yet still managed to snag a postseason berth for the 23rd straight campaign. Datsyuk himself was limited to just 45 regular-season appearances thanks to concussion and knee issues.
