Colts GM Grigson says Richardson was suspended
Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) – Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said at a news conference Friday that running back Trent Richardson was suspended for two games for personal reasons.
Richardson missed the Colts’ walkthrough ahead of their AFC Championship Game loss to the Patriots due to a serious family medical situation, according to the Indianapolis Star.
He was inactive the week prior in Denver, which came a week after he saw just one snap in the Colts’ wild card win over Cincinnati.
“He’s suspended for two games, for personal reasons so I can’t go into that, but he was suspended,” Grigson said Friday, addressing the media five days after the Colts fell 45-7 to New England.
The Colts originally acquired Richardson in a September 2013 trade that sent their upcoming first-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for the former No. 3 overall pick and All-American out of Alabama.
Richardson carried the ball 159 times for 519 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games this season. He lost his starting job to Dan Herron in Week 16.
The 24-year-old Richardson has only rushed for 977 yards and six scores in 29 games with the Colts.
