Chicago Blackhawks Win the Stanley Cup!
The Boston Bruins put in a valiant effort, and for most of the game they looked as though they had Game 6 in their hands. But in the final seconds it quickly slipped through their fingers, and became a game that was reminiscent of a Game 7 in Round 1.
The loss of the Bruins wasn’t quite as bad as when the Bruins handed the Toronto Maple Leafs a humiliating loss in that first round. Then the Leafs seemed to have things all but wrapped, when Boston came in during the final seconds to decimate Toronto’s lead and move onto the next round. But the Bruins saw that same trick played on them last night, when they were up 1-0 in the third, and were only able to watch as the Blackhawks took that victory away.
It was 18:44 in the third, and Boston was still up by one. Corey Crawford skated to Chicago’s bench to give them the extra attacker, and it worked. Bryan Bickell took a pass from Jonathan Toews and put it past Tuukka Rask to tie the game up at 1. Then only 17 seconds later Dave Bolland slid between two of Boston’s defenders to once again skate up to the net and put one past Rask, putting the game at 2-1 in their favor. The Cup belonged to Chicago, and they only had to skate out less than a minute before they could get their hands on it.
The Blackhawks won the Cup, and it’s difficult find a team that deserved it more. Chicago had one of the best starts to the season the league has ever seen, with their winning streak climbing somewhere into the mid-twenties before taking a loss. They didn’t stop dominating once they arrived at the playoffs either, taking out Minnesota in just five games; Detroit in seven; and last year’s champs, the L.A. Kings in also just five games.
With the win, Chicago can not only begin enjoying their summer of champions, but they also make history. They are the first team to win two Stanley Cups since the salary cap was put into effect. They also won back in 2010, when they beat out the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2. Before then though, it had been since 1961 that the franchise added a Cup to its legacy, leading many to believe that this may very well be a new era for the Chicago Blackhawks.
