The Blackhawks are one of only six franchises that can make the claim that they were there at the beginning. The team, founded in 1926, is one of the first six original teams to comprise the National Hockey League. One of the things that set the Blackhawks apart from other teams was their policy of using strictly American players only to make up their roster. This made them the first team to ever have an exclusively American roster for an American based hockey team.

Since the entire league was only comprised of six teams at the time, it was not unheard of that they were all in contention for the title. Even with the lower number of competing teams, the Blackhawks still struggled early on and only managed to win two championships before 1960. This did not deter them in any way from improving their play and striving to bring the championship home to Chicago in the upcoming years.

The Blackhawks brought home the Cup one more time after the1960-61 season and they would not see it again for almost 50 years. In the 2009-10 season, the Blackhawks would finally break one of the longest dry spells in sports history to make it to the finals. Facing the Philadelphia Flyers, who had a dream season themselves, the team would finally end the Flyers run by taking home the Stanley Cup for the fourth time.
