The 1967 NHL expansion saw the addition of the Flyers into the Eastern Conference. Two time Stanley Cup champions, the Flyers made their mark in the hockey world as one of the most successful teams since the expansion came into being. Rather than go for the small and quick players, the Flyers opted for large and intimidating. In the early 70's, the team picked up goaltender Bernie Parent, who was generally regarded as a brick wall when he went between the pipes.

The intimidation factor of the team transferred over to their fans who absolutely loved it. They even went so far as to nickname the team the "Broad Street Bullies" after one of the main streets that run through downtown Philadelphia. The team's anchor line was comprised of Leach, Clarke and Barber, dubbed the "LCB" line, became one of the most feared lines in NHL history. Two more players of note that had no issues with getting into it with opposing teams were Bob Kelly and Dave "The Hammer" Shultz. These five were the backbone that took the team to not one but two Stanley Cup Championships and four conference titles during 1974 to 1980.

The Flyers continue to be a force to be reckoned with each season with them making it more and more difficult to gain any momentum. While they themselves have yet to win another Stanley Cup, they are a mainstay in the playoffs. Their roster remains incredibly strong with one notable exception. They have yet to find a suitable replacement for goalie Bernie Parent. They were close to accomplishing this with the acquisition of Pelle Lindbergh but unfortunately, Lindbergh passed away due to injuries resulting from a car accident in 1985. Many fans believed that more championships were awaiting the team with Pelle guarding the net.
