Catch Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome
Super Bowl XLVII, between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, comes to New Orleans, LA February 3, 2013.
Both teams in this year’s game fought through tough seasons to make it to the championship game, and this year looks to be an exciting clash between two teams, both intent on taking the Vince Lombardi trophy home.
The Baltimore Ravens were founded in 1996, relative newcomers to the league, have made it to the playoffs 9 times in their brief history, and took the championship from the New York Giants in a hard fought battle. This game was marked by a spectacular showing by the Ravens, who made Super Bowl history by scoring three touchdowns in rapid succession: one from an interception, and two more on kick-returns. This will also be the last game of the controversial Ray Lewis, who hopes to end his career with a Super Bowl Ring.
The San Francisco 49ers, one of the greatest dynasties in the NFL, are the old dogs in this fight, having been around since 1946. With 5 league championships, and 5 Super Bowl championships, the 49ers have nothing to prove against the upstart young Ravens. With a storied existence that includes such Hall of famers as Jerry Rice and Joe Montana, San Francisco is looking to add to that long list of accomplishments by defeating the Young but hungry Baltimore team. Led by Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers will play the historic game against the Ravens, led by Jim’s brother John Harbaugh on February 3, 2013 — the first time the Super Bowl has ever had two opposing teams play that are coached by brothers.
The Super Bowl itself came about when the AFL and the NFL merged, with each league then designated as a conference of the NFL as a whole. The Green Bay Packers won the first two Super Bowls, led by the legendary Bart Star. Green bay won five out of the first seven Super Bowls, and becoming one of the first “dynasties” of football.
