Cardinals’ Palmer uncertain for Sunday
Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – The Arizona Cardinals have listed starting quarterback Carson Palmer as questionable for this weekend’s game against the New York Giants as he deals with soreness in his throwing shoulder.
Palmer, whom the Arizona Republic reported is dealing with a nerve issue in his right shoulder, had his practice reps curtailed during the week. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Friday that he believes the veteran signal-caller will be able to play in Sunday’s game, however.
If Palmer cannot go, backup Drew Stanton will make his first NFL start since 2010 in his place.
Running back Andre Ellington was also declared questionable for a second straight week due to an ailing foot, though the second-year pro was able to suit up and produce 80 yards from scrimmage in Monday’s opener against San Diego.
Safety Tyrann Mathieu, who missed Arizona’s 18-17 win over the Chargers as he continued to recover from a torn ACL sustained last December, is expected to return to action against the Giants after being labeled as probable on the final injury report.
Defensive end Frostee Rucker (calf) will not play in Sunday’s matchup, while punter Dave Zastudil is questionable due to a groin injury.
