Cajuns hold off Mississippi St. for spot in Super Regional
Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) – Jace Conrad went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to help top-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette claim the Lafayette Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament with a 5-3 win over Mississippi State on Monday.
Blake Trahan and Michael Strentz added an RBI and a run scored apiece, while starter Ryan Wilson picked up the win after giving up three runs on four hits and four walks over 6 2/3 frames.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will battle Mississippi, which captured the Oxford Regional with a 3-2 win over Washington on Monday, in the Super Regional.
Brett Pirtle collected three hits and an RBI for the second-seeded Bulldogs, who had a chance to secure a spot in the Super Regional Sunday, but dropped a 14-8 decision to Louisiana-Lafayette.
Lucas Laster was tagged for three runs on three hits and three walks over just 2 2/3 innings in the start for MSU, which finished as the runner-up to UCLA in last year’s College World Series.
