Cairo Prince sold to Darley
Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – A majority interest in Holy Bull Stakes winner Cairo Prince has been acquired by Darley Stud. The 3-year-old colt will continue to be trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and race as a part of Sheik Mohammed al-Maktoum’s Godolphin Stable.
Cairo Prince, who will make his next start in the $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on March 29, had been owned by Namcook Stables, Paul Braverman, Harvey Clarke and Craig Robertson.
The gray colt went off as the 2-1 favorite in the 11-horse Holy Bull field on Jan. 25 at Gulfstream. He sat off the pace before taking the lead entering the stretch and registered a 5 3/4-length victory and 10 points toward a start in the Kentucky Derby.
Cairo Prince has won three of four starts for $512,000.
