Bond Holder out of Risen Star after difficult flight
New Orleans. LA (SportsNetwork.com) – Reddam Racing’s Bond Holder was scratched this morning from Saturday’s $400,000 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds by trainer Doug O’Neill.
“This morning we scratched Bond Holder from the Risen Star due to the effects of his having a tough flight going to Louisiana,” O’Neill posted on Facebook. “We will point to the San Felipe instead on March 8th and continue on to Kentucky as the goal!”
The 3-year-old colt apparently suffered an injury during the flight from California to Louisiana.
Bond Holder had drawn post 5 for the 1 1/16-mile stakes. The Risen Star had 16 horses entered in the race which will start a maximum of 14. The colt was the 122 pound highweight for Saturday’s race.
Bond Holder won Santa Anita’s FrontRunner Stakes last September with fourth- place finishes in both the CashCall Futurity and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. The colt has earned $366,000 in his seven career starts, all with Mario Gutierrez in the saddle.
