Blue Jays on 11 Game Winning Streak!
The Jays had an extremely busy off-season, making acquisition after acquisition and deal after deal. That led to a lot of expectations put on the Jays after spring training, with fans expecting to see them emerge one of the top teams in the league. But after an abysmal two months, when the Toronto team sat 11 games out of first place, hope seemed to be all but lost. Those that clung onto the little that was left knew what they were doing though. The Jays have completely turned things around, and their current 11-game winning streak doesn’t look like it’s about to end any time soon.
Melky Cabrera, R.A. Dickey, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle are all putting in their efforts to contribute to the streak. But it’s undeniable that it’s the players in the bottom of Toronto’s lineup that are really making it happen. One of those is Maicer Izturis, a veteran with the team who has always had steady play, but has never emerged as one of the stars. He’s batting .325 right now, with an average this season of .228. And just this Sunday he had a pair of doubles in just five bats, helping the Jays cripple the Baltimore Orioles with a score of 13-5.
Emilio Bonifacio has also been putting in exceptional play, as has Munenori Kawasaki, both staying sharp on stolen bases, single hits, sac bunts and sac flys — and all during Sunday’s game alone. But all of those plays were just examples of how these bottom-order players are stepping up. The fact is this all-around team has continued to do it game after game.
With eleven under their belt, fans are excited to see just how far the Blue Jays will take it. They’ll try to make it twelve on Monday night when they visit St. Petersburg, Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Rays.
