Bengals release Geathers, Little
Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – The Cincinnati Bengals terminated the contracts of defensive end Robert Geathers and wide receiver Greg Little on Friday, and both players have become free agents.
After injuries limited him to two games in 2013, Geathers came back strongly last season, posting 21 tackles, one sack and one interception while appearing in all 16 games for Cincinnati.
A Georgia product selected by the Bengals in 2004, the South Carolina native departs southern Ohio having compiled 325 tackles, 34 sacks, three interceptions (one for a TD) and one fumble returned for a score over 152 contests.
Geathers holds the Bengals record for most fumble return yards in a season (113) and shares the team record for longest single fumble return (75 yards).
“Robert has been with us for all my seasons except the first one,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “He has been a team leader as well as a very productive player. He’s an incredible teammate and a true professional, a big part of the winning seasons we’ve achieved. If Robert elects to pursue an opportunity with another NFL team, the timing of this move will allow him the best possible chance at that.”
In his first and only season with the Bengals, Little posted just six catches for 69 yards over six games.
A North Carolina product, Little spent his first three pro seasons with Cleveland, picking up 155 receptions, 1,821 yards and eight touchdowns in 48 appearances.
