Adam Scott Wins the Masters!
You couldn’t have asked for a better ending for a golf event. It all came down to Angel Cabrera and Adam Scott to see who would take home the green jacket from the Masters this year. If Cabrera’s birdie on the last hole that forced a playoff didn’t make it anyone’s game, the downpour they were playing in certainly did. And in the end, the game turned out to be Scott’s.
On the first hole of the playoff round, it seemed as though Cabrera was going to continue his comeback streak, after his abysmal showings at the 13th, 16th, and 18th holes. He had a nearly flawless putt on the 18th, up until the ball came to a nearly screeching halt just at the lip. You could see the frustration as Cabrera seemed to have wanted to throw his club across the green, while feeling the Masters win slipping through his fingers.
But if his putt on the 18th let the win slip through his fingers, the second playoff shot on the 10th had it falling away entirely. Scott’s ball fell cleanly into the cup, and Scott was fist pumping and celebrating his win even as it did.
The win gives Adam Scott not only his first green jacket, but also the title of being the first Australian to ever win the Masters. Throughout the day, it looked very likely that fellow Aussie, Jason Day, was going to take both, until bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes caused him to fall behind.
