Stanley Cup Playoff Update
Round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs started this week, and most teams have only played one game. But that’s all it takes in the playoffs to make for some great action, and it all continues tonight!
In the Western conference the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks were the first to kick things off. After losing to Anaheim in the first game on Tuesday, the Red Wings came back to win on Thursday, currently keeping that series at a tie.
The only other teams in the West to have played two games are the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Los Angeles Kings, and the St. Louis Blues. After taking the Kings to OT in the first game, the Blues walked away the winner, and they won again at home on Thursday, putting them up 2-0 as they head to L.A. tomorrow.
The Vancouver Canucks will look to come back tonight after losing to San Jose on Wednesday, while Minnesota will try to redeem themselves after losing to Chicago in their opener on Tuesday.
The Eastern conference started their playoff run a day later than in the West, and so teams have only played one game here. But there has been a lot to keep us talking through the week.
The series between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs has been one of the most anticipated of this round, and Boston dominated in their first game. They’ll play again on Saturday, when the Leafs will try to even the score.
Also playing their second game on Saturday will be the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals. The Rangers slowly unraveled in their game against the Caps on Thursday, and will look to redeem themselves in game two.
Playing the same night as Boston and Toronto were the New York Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Even without the best player in the league, Sidney Crosby who’s still out with injury, the Pens defeated the Islanders in a crushing 5-0 victory. These teams play each other again tonight.
Also playing tonight are the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens. After the Sens stole the game away from the Habs last night, they too will face off against each other tonight.
How’s your team doing in this year’s NHL playoffs? And who do you think will move onto round two?
