Pancochova qualifies for slopestyle final
Krasnaya Polyana, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) – Sarka Pancochova of the Czech Republic qualified for the final round of the women’s slopestyle on Sunday at the Sochi Olympics, turning in the best performance of the semifinals.
Pancochova posted a score of 90.50 in her first run to take one of four qualification spots up for grabs in the semifinals. Switzerland’s Sina Candrian, Jenny Jones of Great Britain and Norway’s Silje Norendal claimed the other three final berths.
Medals will be awarded after Sunday’s two-run final round.
Eight riders already had earned a place in the finals after Thursday’s qualification round. Jamie Anderson and Karly Shorr of the United States were among the early qualifiers, as was reigning Olympic halfpipe champion Torah Bright of Australia
Jessika Jenson and Ty Walker of the United States failed to join fellow Anderson and Shorr in the final round. Jenson finished fifth in the semifinals and Walker was sixth.
Canada’s Jenna Blasman was unable to qualify for the final after placing 11th in the semis. Spencer O’Brien qualified for the final on Thursday and will represent the Canadians in the medal round.
