Ohio State 1st in final AP poll
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Ohio State was ranked first in the final Associated Press poll following its 42-20 victory over Oregon in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night.
The Buckeyes, who were previously ranked fifth, received all 59 of the first- place votes and a total of 1,475 points from a nationwide media panel.
Pac-12 champion Oregon moved up a spot to No. 2 and earned 1,402 points.
Big 12 co-champion TCU vaulted into the third spot following its 42-3 rout of Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl.
Alabama fell to fourth following its loss to Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl, while Michigan State and Florida State tied for fifth. The Spartans recorded a 42-41 comeback win over Baylor in the Cotton Bowl and the previously-unbeaten Seminoles were thrashed 59-20 in the Rose Bowl.
Baylor, Georgia Tech, Georgia and UCLA rounded out the top 10.
The second 10 consists of Mississippi State, Arizona State, Wisconsin, Missouri, Clemson, Boise State, Ole Miss, Kansas State, Arizona and USC.
Utah, Auburn, Marshall, Louisville and Memphis were the last five teams ranked.
