Norfolk State’s Adrian announces retirement
Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) – Norfolk State University football coach Pete Adrian announced his retirement Monday after 10 seasons guiding the Spartans.
The 66-year-old Adrian posted a 54-60 record, including 4-8 this season, at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school. The Spartans won the 2011 conference title and advanced to the FCS playoffs under Adrian.
“My time at Norfolk State has been terrific,” Adrian said. “The players and the administration have been great to work with, and I will miss them very much. But after 46 years in coaching, I feel like I need to spend more time with my family while I can. I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach at NSU and to the fans and University administration for the support they have given me.
“My No. 1 goal when I came here was to graduate student-athletes, and I think we’ve done a good job of that.”
Adrian departs as the second-winningest coach in school history behind Dick Price (62-41-4).
