Gamecocks climb 10 spots in AP poll

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – South Carolina vaulted 10 places in the latest Associated Press poll after Saturday’s win over Georgia.

The Gamecocks’ climb to No. 14 gave the Southeastern Conference seven teams in the top 15, which the AP said Sunday was unprecedented.

Florida State was idle and remained No. 1 with 1,466 points overall and 37 first-place votes from a nationwide media panel.

Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma and Auburn rounded out an unchanged top-five from a week ago. Oregon received 17 first-place votes, Alabama had one and Oklahoma garnered two.

Texas A&M moved up one spot to No. 6 following Georgia’s fall to 13th and had three first-place votes. Baylor, LSU, Notre Dame and Ole Miss rounded out the top-10, with Ole Miss climbing four places after a 41-point rout of Louisiana.

Michigan State, UCLA, Georgia, South Carolina, Arizona State, Stanford, USC, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kansas State, BYU, Clemson, Ohio State, Nebraska and Oklahoma State finished the rankings.

Nebraska and Oklahoma State were new additions this week. Virginia Tech and Louisville dropped out.
