New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Eugene Teague registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, as the Seton Hall Pirates narrowly defeated the Butler Bulldogs, 51-50, in the first round of the Big East Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Brian Oliver and Fuquan Edwin each had 10 points for the eighth-seeded Pirates (16-16), who have two of their last three games and will face top-seeded Villanova on Thursday.

Khyle Marshall scored 22 points and Kameron Woods cleared 12 rebounds for the ninth-seeded Bulldogs (14-17).

Seton Hall shot only 34.5 percent from the field in the opening frame but it still led 23-22 at the break. Butler made just 35.7 percent of its field goal attempts, including 1-of-11 from 3-point range.

The Pirates went on a 22-11 run over the first 10:15 of the second half to make it a 13-point game. The Bulldogs mounted a comeback, going on a 17-6 run over the next nine minutes to get within one, 51-50, with 46 seconds left. Neither team would score down the stretch however, and Alex Barlow missed the potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer for Butler.

Despite Seton Hall only shooting 5-of-20 from beyond the arc, Butler was even worse by making just 2-of-18 from 3-point range.

Final Score: DePaul 60, Georgetown 56

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Billy Garrett scored 17 points as the 10th- seeded DePaul Blue Demons knocked off the seventh-seeded Georgetown Hoyas 60-56 in the first round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Garrett, who was named Big East Rookie of the Year earlier in the day, tied for a team-high five rebounds for DePaul (12-20), which advances to face second-seed Creighton. Forrest Robinson tallied 14 points and Brandon Young chipped in 13 points.

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera netted a game-high 21 points for Georgetown (17-14), which also got 17 points from Markel Starks.

A brutal first half ended with the Hoyas on top 25-23. Georgetown sank 38.5 percent from the floor in the period, which was a bit better than the 36 percent effort from the Blue Demons.

DePaul was able to push past the Hoyas after intermission by sinking 47.6 percent from the field and 13-of-17 at the free-throw line. Georgetown hit on 38.5 percent from the field once again to give up the lead and the decision.
