Beholder improving after spiking fever
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder is improving after spiking a fever last Sunday which forced her to be withdrawn from defending her title in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
Owned by Spendthrift Farm, Beholder remains at Santa Anita with plans to send her to Kentucky where she will be sold Nov. 3 at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale in Lexington,
“She’s still here and the fever’s been gone a couple days,” Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella said. “There are a couple different flights, but she is our first concern. The flights are secondary.
“In the next few days, we’ll figure out which one of the flights to take, but she wouldn’t be going until the last minute. She’s not going to be getting on an early flight. We want to make sure she’s well enough.”
Beholder, champion 2-year-old filly of 2012 and last year’s champion 3-year- old filly, won her second straight Zenyatta Stakes on Sept. 27 at Santa Anita. The 4-year-old filly won last year’s Distaff by 4 1/4 lengths over Close Hatches.
She has won 10 of 15 starts, including the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, and earned $3,368,300.
