Recap: Youngstown St vs. Longwood

Ypsilanti, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - DJ Cole recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Youngstown State Penguins captured an 82-72 win over the Longwood Lancers as part of the EMU Showcase at the EMU Convocation Center.

Bobby Hain added a double-double of his own for the Penguins (2-2) as he tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds, while fellow starter Shawn Amiker pitched in with 18 points and eight boards. Not to be overlooked were Jalon Plummer and Marcus Keene with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Lancers (2-2) were paced by Lotanna Nwogbo and Shaquille Johnson with 16 points apiece, followed by Quincy Taylor with 14 points and seven assists, along with Kanayo Obi-Rapu with 11 points off the bench before fouling out.

Both teams shot the ball well from the floor in the first half, the Lancers converting 56.0 percent and YSU an even 50 percent, but at the same time Longwood was a mere 2-of-7 at the free-throw line, allowing the Penguins to move out to a 40-33 advantage at the break.

In the second half both sides again shot at least 53 percent from the field, but even while the Penguins came up empty behind the 3-point line (0-of-3) over the final 20 minutes, they were still pulling away for the double-digit victory.

Youngstown State outscored the Lancers by a 19-2 margin at the charity stripe.
