Xavier Musketeers VS. San Diego Toreros

San Diego (3-1) vs. Xavier (4-0)

GAME NOTES: The second Thanksgiving Day game of the Wooden Legacy tournament will be played at Titan Gym between the San Diego Toreros and the Xavier Musketeers.

San Diego has rebounded nicely from a season-opening loss to Boise State (81-75) with three straight wins. The Toreros took down Southeast Missouri State, Florida A&M and, most recently, Western Michigan (77-70).

Xavier can top that. The Musketeers enter the Wooden Legacy with a 4-0 overall record, winning all four home games the team has played. The Musketeers are coming off an 89-62 blowout win over Murray State.

This clash between San Diego and Xavier will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

San Diego managed to gain a seven-point advantage over Western Michigan at the end of the first half thanks to 50-percent shooting from the field, and because of a 66.7 percent shooting touch in the second half, the Toreros were able to hang on and defeat Western Michigan. Johnny Dee scored a team-high 21 points, and Jito Kok netted 15 points with four blocked shots in the win. Duda Sanadze tallied 13 points, Thomas Jacobs added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Chris Anderson dished out a team-high 12 assists for the Toreros.

Dee has been a scoring machine for San Diego through four games, leading the team with a 20.5 ppg average. The guard is adding a solid 4.5 rpg mark, and is shooting 47.1 percent from the floor. Anderson checks in behind Dee with a 10.3 ppg average (along with a team-best 36 assists) and Jacobs rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.0 ppg. San Diego as a unit is netting 72.8 ppg with a 48.7 shooting percentage from the field, while the team holds opponents to 62.0 ppg.

Murray State is one of the top contenders in the Ohio Valley Conference, and possesses plenty of scoring and strong defense. But Xavier made light work of the usually tough Racers, which resulted in an 89-62 victory. Xavier shot 48 percent from the floor in the contest, and was led in scoring by Trevon Bluiett and Matt Stainbrook's 19-point efforts. James Farr chipped in with a 10-point, 14-rebounds double-double, and Jalen Reynolds added another 12 points with 11 boards. The Musketeers pulled down an unbelievable 56 rebounds in the contest.

Bluiett, a 6-foot-6 freshman forward, has proven to be one of the better scorers on the team already. He leads the Musketeers in scoring with an 18.3 ppg average, shooting an incredible 65 percent through four starts. The center Stainbrook is the only other player netting a double figure point total, chipping in 17.0 ppg this season with a team high-tying 7.5 rpg mark. Reynolds (also 7.5 rpg) is the man tied with Stainbrook in the rebounding department. Through four contests, Xavier is averaging a whopping 90.0 ppg and is holding opponents to just 64.8 ppg.

San Diego is on a hot streak, but so is Xavier. The Musketeers are absolutely dominating opponents this season, and pretty decent ones at that. Despite some notable losses from last year's roster, Xavier looks stronger than ever.
