DePaul (11-9) at Xavier (12-7)
GAME NOTES: The Xavier Musketeers aim for revenge when they tangle with the DePaul Blue Demons in Big East Conference play at the Cintas Center on Saturday.
Xavier is coming off a 69-66 overtime loss at Providence on Thursday, marking the team's third setback in the last four games.
DePaul has won its last two games, with the most recent being a 64-60 decision at No. 24 Seton Hall on Thursday.
The Blue Demons posted a 71-68 home win over the Musketeers on Jan. 3 to take a 9-5 lead in the all-time series.
Matt Stainbrook scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Myles Davis added 16 points and Jalen Reynolds generated 14 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to the Friars on Thursday night. The Musketeers shot a dismal 32.1 percent from the field and 0-of-7 from beyond the arc in the first half. Xavier connected on 52.2 percent from the floor and finished the half on a 9-0 run to force overtime before losing.
Stainbrook is sixth in the Big East in rebounding (7.2 rpg) to go along with a team-best 12.6 ppg. He is shooting 62.3 percent from the field, which is fourth-best in the conference. Trevon Bluiett (11.8 ppg) had a double-double consisting of 19 points and 12 rebounds against DePaul earlier this month. He scored all of his points in the second half. Xavier is 9-1 when holding foes to 70 points or less.
The Blue Demons, winners of five of their last seven games, got 14 points from Myke Henry and 13 from Billy Garrett in the victory over the Pirates. Darrick Wood added 11 points while Rashaun Stimage tallied 10 points to go with seven rebounds. DePaul connected on 37.5 percent of its field goal attempts, and the win snapped DePaul's losing streak against ranked opponents at 51 games.
DePaul's 5-2 start to begin the Big East schedule is among the best records for the team after seven conference games since the Blue Demons departed from being an independent in 1991. A sixth Big East win would be the most for the Blue Demons since the team went 6-12 in conference play in 2007-08. The highest Big East victory total for the squad is nine, set in 2006-07. Also, a win in this game would give DePaul back-to-back road Big East victories for the first time since that 2006-07 campaign.
Henry (13.4 ppg), Garrett (13.4 ppg), Jamee Crockett (10.9 ppg) and Tommy Hamilton (10.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg) lead the way for the Blue Demons, who are shooting 36.2 percent from 3-point range. Garrett is a solid 86.7 percent from the foul line with 111 made free throws.
The Musketeers have started the season with 10 straight wins at the Cintas Center. Expect Xavier to turn the tables on the Blue Demons, and Bluiett to have a big game just like the one he had on Jan. 3.
