Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt Commodores VS. LSU Tigers

LSU (14-4) at Vanderbilt (11-7)

GAME NOTES: Vanderbilt will try to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday when the Commodores welcome the dangerous LSU Tigers to Memorial Gym for an SEC matchup.

Vanderbilt gave No. 1 Kentucky a late scare on Tuesday, but the Commodores wound up on the losing end of a 65-57 decision. They were within four with under three minutes to play, but the Wildcats held on to stay unbeaten.

Riley LaChance shot 6-of-8 from the floor in tallying 16 points and Matthew Fisher-Davis added 13 for Vanderbilt, which received 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks from Damian Jones.

Jones headlines the Vandy offensive attack, shooting 54.4 percent from the field while pacing the team in scoring (15.7 ppg), rebounding (7.2 rpg) and blocked shots (32). LaChance has made an immediate impact in his freshman campaign. The youngster is averaging 13.4 ppg (leads all freshman in the SEC) and extends defenses with his ability to drain the 3-point shot, as he is shooting 41.8 percent from behind the arc.

LSU rebounded from a home loss to Texas A&M with a 79-61 pasting of Florida on Tuesday. Jarell Martin scored a career-high 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the triumph, the Tigers' third in their last four games.

Three other players scored in double figures in the rout, as Keith Hornsby and Tim Quarterman each netted 15 points while Jordan Mickey added 14 to go with 14 rebounds. Quarterman also handed out eight assists.

The Tigers' largest win in Gainesville since 1992 came as a result of them hitting 51.9 percent of their shots and making all but one of their 18 free- throws.

That should not come as a surprise, as the Tigers average 75.3 ppg on 45.8 percent shooting -- both of which rank them third in the SEC.

Martin and Mickey have been dominant forces underneath the basket. Martin leads the team in scoring at 16.9 ppg, while Mickey adds 15.5 ppg. Mickey leads the Tigers on the glass, averaging 10.6 rpg (second in the SEC), but Martin isn't far behind, grabbing 8.8 boards per outing (third). Hornsby (12.5 ppg) and Quarterman (12.1 ppg) round out the unit's double-digit scorers.

LSU trails the all-time series with Vandy, 60-51, but the Tigers have won the last three meetings. They should make it four in a row based on the Commodores' recent track record of losing close games.

Predicted Outcome

LSU 75, Vanderbilt 70
