Recap: ULM vs. Vermont
Monroe, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Majok Deng registered a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds as the ULM Warhawks posted a 71-65 win over the Vermont Catamounts in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational at Fant- Ewing Coliseum.
Deng, who cleared six rebounds at the offensive end of the floor, connected on half of his 16 field goal attempts for the Warhawks (24-12), who will now face off against Loyola-Chicago in the best-of-three championship series starting on Mar. 30.
Also scoring in double figures for ULM were Tylor Ongwae and Jamaal Samuel with 22 and 14 points, respectively.
Pacing the Catamounts (20-14) was Ethan O'Day with 16 points, on 7-of-11 shooting, adding seven rebounds as well. Dre Wills and Kurt Steidl pitched in with 11 points apiece.
Both sides knocked down 12-of-29 from the floor in the first half, but thanks to a trio of 3-pointers and a slight edge at the free-throw line, Vermont was able to push out to a 35-33 advantage at the break.
In the second half the visitors connected on 50.0 percent from the field, but the big difference came at the charity stripe where the Catamounts were outscored in the frame, 11-0.
ULM, which has scored 71 points in three straight outings and won those decisions by a combined 12 points, outscored the visitors at the free-throw line, 18-8.
