Recap: Tulsa vs. Houston
Tulsa, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Shaquille Harrison and James Woodard both produced 18 points as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane defeated the Houston Cougars, 72-54, in an American Athletic Conference tilt at the Reynolds Center.
Also scoring in double figures for Tulsa (9-5, 2-0 AAC) was Rashad Smith with 16 points, to go along with a game-high nine rebounds, as the Golden Hurricane won for the fourth time in as many outings.
The Cougars (7-6, 0-2), losers of two straight, were paced by Jherrod Stiggers who dropped in 17 points and pulled down five rebounds, although he did shoot only 4-of-11 behind the 3-point line. L.J. Rose pitched in with 12 points and six assists.
Houston led by as many as four points in the first half, but the team then allowed the host to convert 50.0 percent from the field and 9-of-12 at the free-throw line in order to take a 37-28 advantage at the break.
Both programs made a total of only nine field goals in the second half but, even after coming up empty on five tries beyond the arc, Tulsa continued to pull away on the strength of a 17-4 scoring edge at the free-throw line.
The Golden Hurricane overcame 0-of-10 shooting on the perimeter by outscoring the visitors at the charity stripe overall, 26-8.
