Recap: Tulane vs. South Florida
New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Louis Dabney poured in 25 points as the Tulane Green Wave edged the South Florida Bulls, 56-51, in an American Athletic Conference overtime thriller at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Jay Hook added nine points for the Green Wave (12-4, 3-1 AAC), which also received a team-high seven rebounds courtesy of Kajon Mack.
Corey Allen, Jr. paced USF (7-10, 1-3) with 13 points on 5-of-17 shooting from the floor. Bo Ziegler chipped in 12 points, Troy Houston, Jr. scored 11 points and Ruben Guerrero grabbed 11 boards.
Tulane took a 22-17 lead into the intermission after it converted 11-of-12 free-throw tries in the opening stanza. The Bulls trailed at the break despite shooting 35 percent from the floor and limiting the Green Wave to a 5-of-24 clip from the field in the first half.
USF made good on 37.5 percent of its shots from the floor and attempted 13 more field goals over the final 20 minutes of regulation. Tulane led, 41-29, with 12:03 left in the second period before the Bulls used a 17-4 run to take a one-point lead with 22 seconds showing on the game clock. Jonathan Stark drew a foul on a jumper and made 1-of-2 shots at the charity stripe to even the score before Collins missed a jumper just before time expired in regulation.
USF was limited to 2-of-7 shooting from the floor in the extra session. The Green Wave converted 5-of-6 tries at the charity stripe in overtime to pull away.
Despite the loss, the Bulls finished with a 37-31 advantage in total rebounds and outscored Tulane, 24-10, in the paint.
