TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech Red Raiders VS. North Texas Mean Green

North Texas (6-5) at Texas Tech (9-3)

GAME NOTES: The Texas Tech Red Raiders will attempt to put a stop to a two- game losing streak as they play host to the North Texas Mean Green at United Supermarkets Arena in their final non-conference game of the season.

North Texas has been up and down already this season, and owns a 6-5 record entering this clash with in-state rival Texas Tech. The Mean Green ended a two-game win streak with a 70-67 loss against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday, and are currently 0-3 away from home this season.

Texas Tech was 9-1 on the new campaign before the team hit the road to Las Vegas to take part in the Las Vegas Classic. The Red Raiders dropped consecutive games to Loyola Chicago (62-44) and Houston (82-69) at the neutral site location. However, at home the Raiders are a perfect 9-0 this season.

Texas Tech and North Texas have met a total of 15 times on the court, with the Red Raiders owning a 9-6 all-time series lead. In Lubbock, Texas Tech is 5-1 against the Mean Green.

Prairie View A&M had just one win on the season before the team traveled to Denton, Texas, to take on the Mean Green. North Texas just couldn't keep the Panthers at bay, as the visitors netted 45.5 percent of their shots from the field and made 8-of-18 from 3-point range to earn the three-point victory. Jordan Williams led the way for North Texas, netting 15 points with seven rebounds and five turnovers. DeAndre Harris chipped in with 11 points in 26 minutes, but missed all three free-throw attempts in the three-point defeat.

Williams has been the go-to scorer for the Mean Green this season, as the senior guard comes into the clash with Texas Tech averaging 14.3 ppg on 39.8 percent shooting from the floor. His 30 assists are the most on the team so far, and his 5.1 rpg mark is third on the squad behind Colin Voss (6.5 rpg) and Jeremy Combs (6.2 rpg). Combs is second on the team in scoring, netting 9.5 ppg for a Mean Green squad scoring 66.5 ppg this season. North Texas defensively is holding opponents to the same scoring average it is averaging on the other end of the floor - 66.5 ppg.

Texas Tech dropped its second straight contest on the second day of the Las Vegas Classic after the Red Raiders failed to contain a tough Houston offense. The Cougars shot 54 percent from the floor in the consolation game of the two- day tournament, while they made 40.4 percent of their tries from the field. Devaugntah Williams led the Raiders with 21 points in the loss, as the guard missed all nine of his 3-point tries. Randy Onwuasor added 14 points with seven rebounds, and Robert Turner chipped in with 12 points in the losing effort.

Like his counterpart for North Texas in the upcoming contest, Devaugntah Williams for Texas Tech is the team's go-to scorer, and the only one averaging double figures for the squad this season. Williams enters this game netting 11.4 ppg for an offense scoring 69.8 ppg this season on 44.3 percent shooting. The Red Raiders have built their strong start to the season on a tough defensive effort, allowing opponents to score just 58.9 ppg on 38 percent shooting. Zach Smith's 5.4 rpg average is tops on the team.

This should be the game that allows the Red Raiders to get back on track after two straight losses. The Mean Green have to rely on Jordan Williams to score in order to be successful, and Texas Tech's stifling scoring defense should make sure North Texas doesn't get too many open opportunities.

Predicted Outcome

Texas Tech 70, North Texas 58
