Recap: Texas Tech vs. Air Force
Lubbock, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - A free-throw by Robert Turner with 23 seconds remaining erased a nine-point deficit as the Texas Tech Red Raiders captured an exciting 63-62 win over the Air Force Falcons in a non-conference clash at United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech (4-1), trailing by a score of 62-53 with just over two minutes left, held the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way as it won for the third time in as many outings. Devaugntah Williams scored 21 points off the bench for the hosts, followed by Turner who tallied 19 points, hitting all but one of his nine attempts at the charity stripe.
The Falcons (3-3) were paced by Max Yon who dropped in a game-high 25 points off the bench, thanks to 5-of-7 shooting behind the 3-point line and 10-of-14 from the floor overall, but he was the only Air Force player to score in double figures as the squad lost for the second time in as many games.
The visitors appeared poised to run away with the victory as they shot 54.2 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-12 on the perimeter, while at the same time limiting the Red Raiders to a mere six field goals, en route to a 32-16 advantage at the break.
The lead for the Falcons reached 19 points, seven minutes into the second half, but Texas Tech began chipping away and eventually came all the way back and claimed the unlikely victory.
Both sides turned the ball over 18 times, but Tech outscored Air Force 19-12 off miscues and also held a 17-8 edge at the free-throw line.
