TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech Red Raiders VS. Air Force Falcons

Air Force (3-2) at Texas Tech (3-1)

GAME NOTES: The Air Force Falcons and the Texas Tech Red Raiders square off in a non-conference clash at United Supermarkets Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Air Force has played just one true road game this season, losing at Colorado on Tuesday, 68-53. The setback put an end to the Falcons' three-game winning streak and dropped them to 3-2 on the season.

Since suffering a 75-64 loss at LSU on Nov. 18 as part of the Tip-Off Marathon, Texas Tech has reeled off two straight wins, most recently downing Northwestern State on Tuesday, 75-64. The Red Raiders are 3-1 on the campaign and have won four straight at home dating back to last season.

The Red Raiders have a 7-2 advantage in the all-time series with the Falcons, although Air Force won the most recent meeting in November of 2006, 67-53.

The Falcons never had much of a chance in their most recent game, as they fell behind 37-15 at the half, and even with a stellar second stanza the deficit proved to be insurmountable. They shot only 32.7 percent from the field on the night, which included a 4-of-20 showing from 3-point range, and they lost out on several possessions by getting outrebounded, 41-27. Only Matt Mooney and Trevor Lyons scored in double figures in the losing effort with 10 points apiece, with Mooney also swiping five steals.

Air Force is usually a very efficient offensive team, as it shoots 51.4 percent from the field (including 44.3 percent from 3-point range) en route to 71.8 ppg, which is more than enough to support a solid scoring defense (62.8 ppg). Max Yon puts up a team-best 14.0 ppg with outstanding percentages from the field (.529) and beyond the arc (.480). Kamryn Williams (10.5 ppg) is the only other player in double figures, but seven others put up at least 4.0 ppg.

The Red Raiders built a nine-point lead at the half of their latest game and led by double digits for the majority of the second stanza. In addition to outshooting Northwestern State from the field, 48.2 percent to 41.8 percent, they also won the rebounding battle, 41-27, and connected on nearly half their 3-point attempts (7-of-15). Pacing four players in double figures with 13 points was Robert Turner, who also tallied five steals. Devaugntah Williams netted 11 points and Randy Onwuasor and Justin Gray scored 10 apiece.

Texas Tech has performed well on both ends of the floor this season, shooting 42 percent from the field for 72.5 ppg while allowing 65.0 ppg on less than 39 percent shooting. It is also helped by a strong +7.0 rebounding margin. Norense Odiase scores a team-best 12.0 ppg on greater than 65 percent from the floor to go with 6.8 rpg and more than a block per contest. Williams (11.5 ppg) and Turner (9.8 ppg) are also integral pieces.

In a battle between evenly matched teams, the Red Raiders' homecourt advantage will give them the boost they need down the stretch to pick up the victory.
