Youngstown State (7-4) at Texas A&M (6-2)
GAME NOTES: The Youngstown State Penguins are unbeaten so far in December, and they will look to keep it going Saturday evening at Reed Arena when they take on the Texas A&M Aggies in non-conference play.
Youngstown State had the week off from game action for final exams, which followed a 70-45 triumph over Division III school Thiel on Sunday. The win was the third in a row for the Penguins to kick off the month of December. They have won six of their last seven games overall.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M is coming off a 77-63 setback at Baylor on Tuesday. That outcome snapped the team's five-game winning streak. The Aggies now return to College Station, where they are unbeaten through four tries this season.
This marks the first-ever meeting between these two programs.
YSU shot just 37.7 percent from the floor against D-III foe Thiel, but a 24-7 scoring edge at the foul line made up for it. The Penguins also got 21 points from sophomore guard Marcus Keene, who has made at least four 3-pointers in each of the last six games. With 39 threes made on the season, Keene currently leads the nation in that category. He also tops the Horizon League in scoring at 18.8 points per game. Junior forward Bobby Hain added 15 points and five rebounds in Sunday's win. Hain averaged 18.3 points (on 60.6-percent shooting from the field) and 10.3 rebounds in three victories last week to earn Horizon League Player of the Week honors. He is tied for the league lead with four double-doubles this season.
The Aggies shot a season-best 56.4 percent from the floor against Baylor, but they were out-rebounded by a huge, 38-18 margin. Kourtney Roberson and Alex Robinson were the only double-figure scorers in the loss, finishing with 11 points apiece. Both players scored all 11 of their points after halftime. Reigning SEC Co-Player of the Week Alex Caruso attempted only three field goals in 31 minutes and ended the game with five points. In the Aggies' previous game, a 72-71 comeback win over Arizona State, he scored a season- high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor to go along with six steals and six assists.
The Penguins struggled offensively against a Division III program. A similar effort will not cut it here, playing on the road against a 6-2 team from a power conference.
