Recap: Texas A&M vs. Mercer
College Station, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by Jalen Jones, who scored 20 points with eight rebounds, the Texas A&M Aggies downed the Mercer Bears, 65-50, in a non-conference tilt at Reed Arena.
For the Aggies (8-3), Davonte Fitzgerald added 13 points, Kourtney Roberson scored 11 and had seven rebounds, Danuel House chipped in with 11 points and Alex Caruso dished out eight assists.
Ike Nwamu led the Bears (6-8) with 16 points while Jordan Strawberry finished with 12 points.
The Aggies took a 30-23 led into halftime, though they shot just 39.1 percent from the field, but that did include 3-of-8 from 3-point range. The Bears made 40.9 percent of their field goal tries in the first half, including 3-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Texas A&M improved greatly in the second half, as the Aggies shot 51.9 percent from the field, including 2-of-7 from beyond the arc. Mercer shot 41.7 percent, including 4-of-13 from beyond the arc. The Bears got to within one in the opening minutes of the second half, but never got over the hump. A late 14-0 run by the Aggies put the game away, as they coasted to victory.
The Aggies dominated the boards by outrebounding the Bears, 36-25. The Aggies also outscored the Bears in the paint, 32-14, and from the free-throw line, 14-5.
